cmrtyz

cmrtyz is Carlos M. Ruiz and Ty Ziskis with help of Amy Tisdale.  I had the extreme pleasure of meeting this crew over this past weekend. Kyle Scully was shooting the look book for their shredded clothing line to be sold at OAK and I tagged along. Beyond their art based clothing, they make beautiful bizarre screen-prints and have a position of collaboration and support within the emerging rock and pysch music scene.  Seattle based, they affirmed that people are doing awesome things everywhere.

*CMRTYZ* is a free thinking, limitless, expectation-less operation. We are unassuming in our approach whether it be fashion or design, always with the mindset of having fun and making the whole experience rewarding and mutually beneficial for our clients/friends. We are always seeking retail accounts with those who are willing to have a strong personal relationships with us and be open to collaborative creative endeavours… and party with ; ). We hope to lead a resurgence of DIY, lo-fi aesthetic through silk-screening and analog design and definitely want more friendly people surrounding us always.

CMR never went to art school. In fact, he openly admits that he never studied graphic design techniques, doesn’t know a thing about computer design programs, and doesn’t even own a computer. With a good eye for composition and a bit of intuition, he often times designs posters while riding the bus and completes layouts within an a few hours using sharpies, collaged images, and copy machines. His black & white and two-color posters are simple in the sense that they are bold and raw; pixelated and hand-drawn, they have an organic edge that is rarely seen in the work of contemporary designers. When he’s not designing a poster or drawing in his sketchbook, you’ll likely find him smoking, listening to garage-punk records, or drinking his coffee black.

TYZ has been a nomad for years, living in the deserts of Arizona, the bay area of California’s coast, the forests of Northern Washington and settling for now in Seattle. Being interested in art, photography, and fashion, he has created a familiar niche in all his homes- that of local enthusiast and collaborator. With his rugged demeanor and ability to always land on his feet, he has never had a problem moving from one great undertaking to another. With a gift of gab and clear understanding of where we want our brand to go he is a driving force behind getting things done and booked. Head of our Public Relations and Sales.

Look for their show in New York:

Psychedelic Summer
June 24th | RARE GALLERY
New York, NY

Featuring | cmrtyz, John Malta, Matthew Volz, and Cassie Ramone. Psychedelic Summer will shine a light on the lo-fi music and art scene that has had a recent resurgence in the last few years and will showcase how this community has spread widely across the U.S. while still staying tightly knit. All of the artists in the show have gotten to know one another by doing artwork for bands in this genre and participating in the music community. Through communication via email and phone and running into each other at gigs throughout the country, these artists have all become good pals. The show will feature original and new art, as well as the posters and record covers they’ve become known for.
