BOOOOOOOM PROJECT – LITTLE DRIFTERS

blog-littledriftersOur good friend Jeff Hamada over at Booooooom has come up with yet another fun interactive event happening this Saturday, July 24, called Little Drifters.. It’s all about building yourself a little boat using all natural materials and meeting up Saturday to float them, snap some pics and hang out. He’ll post all the photos he gets before the 26th on the website.

This event is happening elsewhere outside of Vancouver as well, so where ever you are, get some friends, make something small and pretty and float it on a body of water! Then send the pics to Jeff before the 26th.

In Vancouver, meet Jeff and everyone at Trout Lake Park (map), at the North end on the big dock at 1pm. Learn more here.

ps. Congrats to Booooooom for their recent article in the Vancouver Sun!

CARGOH OFFERS ARTISTS A NEW WAY TO CONNECT AND SELL

CARGOH.COM

Our friend’s over at Cargoh launched their website a few weeks back. Cargoh is a place where artists, musicians, designers, and other miscellaneous creative types can be seen, heard, and collected in one community driven marketplace. It’s great to see new ways for emerging artists to sell their work, it’s what The Cheaper Show is all about.

They’ve made it easy to do, and if you sign-up before August 1st, it’s free for LIFE. Pretty amazing offer, we suggest you jump on it! Get over to www.cargoh.com and check it out.

AN UNFOLDING

1.

   “A close, angled script
does well to render
the imperceptible
Heroic

But your face
baffles
and a neat hand
does nothing for it:

   The slight twitch
   of lily-pond green
   of pupils
   of physical impossibilities
               -Unknowns

2.

There will be
An Unfolding
      Now

We are alien, though,
like orchids

   Everything
that pleases
will fly away
in the midst
(and with the transcription)
of Your magnitude”

West End MLA Spencer Herbert loves the arts

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT AREN’T FAMILIAR WITH SPENCER HERBERT, HE IS ONE OF THE CITY’S HARDEST WORKING POLITICAL FIGURES AND ARGUABLY THE MOST VOCAL OPPONENT OF THE ARTS CUTS IN BC. HE IS A FEARLESS AND HEARTFELT LEADER IN THE CITY WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE. NEXT TIME YOU SEE HIM, SHAKE HIS HAND, GIVE HIM A HUG OR BUY HIM A BEER AND THANK HIM FOR BEING AWESOME.

cmrtyz

cmrtyz is Carlos M. Ruiz and Ty Ziskis with help of Amy Tisdale.  I had the extreme pleasure of meeting this crew over this past weekend. Kyle Scully was shooting the look book for their shredded clothing line to be sold at OAK and I tagged along. Beyond their art based clothing, they make beautiful bizarre screen-prints and have a position of collaboration and support within the emerging rock and pysch music scene.  Seattle based, they affirmed that people are doing awesome things everywhere.

DUSK WITH SUN

Two men go for a walk
    at dusk
Both are painters
One is a Landscape-Surrealist
One is a Superrealist

They both get along
Talk about women

Suddenly,
A slash of sunlight plunges down      (in a red dusk)
From a froth of violet clouds

It warms the face
And shins           (both are wearing shorts)
Of each man

The Superrealist, alarmed, says
What’s going on? it’s dusk.
The Landscape-Surrealist, pleased, smiles broadly,
Replies :
Dusk with sun
