Come out to see local artist (well, Sunshine Coast artist) Ben Tour‘s new works in an exhibit titled ‘Notes From the Underground’. Ben is primarily known for paintings and drawings of figures – real, imagined, inspiring, and all the rest. You can get a little taste of his work by watching this video!

Mike Macri’s first solo show in Vancouver, More Like Our Fathers, is a series of 12 high-realism cross stitchings representing goaltenders from each of the 12 teams of the first NHL expansion era (1967-70). Hosted by
Catalog Gallery and curated by Zoe Pawlak, Mike’s cross-stitchings are both stunning & painstakingly crafted.

Like many boys growing up in Canada, hockey was a pervasive force in the childhood of Mike Macri. Hockey has absorbed our country and is woven into our collective Canadian conscience. “The players we watched were the ultimate denotation of masculinity.”, says Mike who uses the medium of cross-stitching to explore our preconceived notions about gender and explore a rapidly shifting male culture. “Ultimately, this work looks to address a subconscious lamentation for a perceived loss of the mytho-paternal, by way of a rupture in the established semiotics of masculinity.”

More Like Our Fathers, will be at Catalog Gallery in Gastown from Sept 16th to October 2nd.
